Algeria:Tough times for famed fig farmers
Even though the dried figs of Beni Maouche, northern Algeria, a major producer of the fruit in the country received the Geographic Indication label last year, farmers keep complaining about their struggles to ensure that their parcelled figs are exported with ease.
The label may have given the products recognition and protection in both local and international markets, but as Armelle Nga and Elvis Boh report, more support is needed from government.
Gabon inaugurates Owendo port
Gabon has increased the capacity of the country’s popular Owendo port by making it a multipurpose terminal.
An investment worth $ 300M will expand the port to handle over 100,000 containers a year , and ensure the needs of the Gabonese economy for upcoming years are met.
The terminal is meant to receive container vessels , general cargo among others.
